This was my grandmothers favorite song. She had a boyfriend named Danny who she lost. My cousin was named Danny in tribute to him.

I know of no other Irish song in which a father expresses his love for his son. It was written by a British lawyer, Frederick Wetherby in 1910. His son did in WWI. It is set to the ancient Irish tune, the Derry Air.
